1959 Austin-Healey Speedwell Sprite Mk I roadster. Yeah, it's
a race car, but we're adding a few "civilized" features (e.g., lights,
windshield, passenger seat) so I can drive it on the street during
the off-season. The restoration work is being done at my buddy's
shop, Toy
Shop Restorations, with race prep by our new partnership, British
Speedwell Racing. We'll be trying to keep it pretty close to
its racing form, so I'll still be able to take it vintage racing.

The Speedwell
Monza fiberglass bonnet, rollbar, alloy tonneau were all installed
by Toy Shop
Restorations here in San Diego in the late 1980's. Last raced
by the Toy
Shop in the 1991 San Diego Vintage Grand Prix. Don't really know
much of its prior history yet, still researching. I bought it last
year. Re-estoration, engine rebuild, and race prep this year by
British Speedwell Racing. I raced it in the VARA Liberty Grand
Prix at Pomona, July 4th weekend. Now we're swapping out the race
motor and "civilizing" the car for street use during the off-season. |
